Down
Most people would agree that riding a bike down a hill is funner than up. But, without using the correct techniques, descending can be a frightening and dangerous experience. This session will focus on skills like the proper use of brakes, being more stable and balanced on the bike and choosing safer lines to ride on the trail.
Around
Maintaining speed and traction through downhill corners is tough for many riders. We will help you learn the techniques to navigate through various corner types with increased commitment and control. More traction=more speed=more flow!
This course is for 19+ male and female riders around a skill level 2 (based on our ability chart) with reasonable physical fitness.
For students who have participated in any of our 2019 riding clinics, this is a great opportunity to continue developing your skills, as we'll be diving into some more detailed riding techniques.
Students should plan to ride approximately 8-12km on a mix of beginner and intermediate trails. The Ellison trail network contains mostly mellow and rolling terrain, however some upper trails are more rocky. Depending on the skill level of the group, we may ride some of the upper trail network.
Our classes provide a supportive environment to push yourself a bit and try new things, but we'll never make anyone ride something they are truly afraid of. If there is a section of trail you'd prefer to walk or scope out before attempting, feel free to do so. Group sizes are limited to 4 students per coach to provide a personalized and focused learning experience.
You need to bring:
- A well maintained full suspension bike with disc brakes (no department store type bikes)
- Riding gear (helmet, gloves, shoes, pack with essential tools/tube)
- Enough food and water for 2 hours
- Weather appropriate clothing
- A positive attitude, willingness to try new things and a bucketful of air high fives (from 2 metres apart)!
Read our Policies and COVID 19 pages before registering to ensure you are good with all of the T&C's.
