Ability Level Guide



Level 1 (new/beginner)



- Little or no off road cycling experience.

- Looking for help learning basic bike handling skills to take their riding beyond pavement or dirt roads.

- Braking, shifting gears and body position are pretty new concepts.

- May ride flat or slightly hilly terrain for up to 1 hour at time.



Level 2 (beginner/intermediate)



- Rides green (beginner) trails confidently and most blue

(intermediate) trails cautiously.

- Understands some basic skill concepts, such as shifting gears, braking, and balance on the bike.

- May ride mellow single track with sustained ups and downs for about 1 to 2 hours at a time,




Level 3 (confident intermediate)



- Blue (intermediate) trails is where most ride time is spent.

- Can ride at a brisk pace on climbs and descents without taking much of a rest.

- Want to build confidence on black trails (advanced), which have features like roll downs, small drops, jumps and rock gardens

- May ride 2+ hours on trails with steeper ups and techy downs.



Level 4 (advanced)



- Rides any and all terrain, but wants to get faster on it!

- Has a strong skill set, but is searching for that "edge" over other riders.

- Those who want to learn more advanced techniques, such as large drops and jumps, faster line choices and pulling more speed out of corners.

- Can ride until the cows come home.
