What the Tech?

Conquer Your Black Diamond Trail Demons

May 23 2021 from 10:00am-1:30pm.

Cost: $85

Location: Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park ( map )

Kal park has a few techy and steep trails that are intimidating to some riders and usually aren't their regular "go-to" choices. Let us coach you through how to ride them more confidently so they become part of your regular riding route!

These type of trails require an understanding and application of more advanced skills to ride them safely and in control. So, if you would like to learn these skills to keep your trail flow going, this clinic is for you.

Class begins at the Cougar Canyon parking lot and may take place on such trails as Twista, Serendiptiy, Achrophobia, Black Powder and maybe 36DD

  • Maintain speed through loose and rocky downhill turns.
  • Advanced braking methods to control speed when dealing with difficult trail features, like loose dirt and steep rock gardens.
  • Choosing better lines to smooth out the trail and maintain momentum.
  • Increasing your range of motion to become a more fluid and active bike handler.
  • Further development of the “attack/ready” and “neutral” body positions so they are used at the proper time on more challenging terrain…and more!

This class is for 19+ male and female riders around Level 3 (refer to our ability chart) with good physical fitness.

We provide a supportive environment to push yourself a bit and try new things, but we'll never make anyone ride something they are truly afraid of. If there is a section of trail you'd prefer to walk or scope out before attempting, feel free to do so. Group sizes are limited to 6 students per coach to provide a personalized and focused learning experience.

Please bring:

  • A well maintained full suspension bike with disc brakes (no department store type bikes)
  • Riding gear (helmet, gloves, shoes, pack with essential tools/tube)
  • Enough food and water to support you for a 3 hour ride
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • A positive attitude, willingness to try new things and a bucketful of high fives!

Read our Policies and COVID-19 page before registering to ensure you are good with all our T&C's. Contact us at coaching@bikehappytrails.ca if you have any questions or to see if this course is right for you.
